CBD Oil As A Contribution to Healing Chronic Pain

Written By Robert Kornfeld 21 Jul 2018

I have been practicing podiatric medicine and surgery for over 35 years. I was trained in a very conventional paradigm of medications and surgery and when I went into practice, I believed I had a very strong knowledge and skill base. After about 5 years into my own private practice, reality began to become the pink elephant in the room. Patients felt better on medication. If they went off of it, their pain returned. If I did surgery, they usually did well, but down the road, new problems arose that required further professional care. I soon began to realize that doctors are trained to deal with a symptom complex. We work diligently to make a diagnosis and then we spring into action to try and control the symptoms, hoping that our patients will heal and recover without recurrence. And for a great many patients, this is true. Unfortunately, for many, it is not.

If we look at the human body and how it functions, this comes as no surprise. Inflammation is not caused by a shortage of anti-inflammatory medication in the bloodstream. Pain is not caused by a shortage of opiates in the bloodstream. By solely working to control symptoms, we give rise to other damning issues. For example, since the detoxification and repair of our tissues is governed by the pathway of primary inflammation (which facilitates detoxification and repair), using anti-inflammatory drugs to control chronic, painful inflammation will also suppress the pathway of primary inflammation. So, we have successfully controlled the painful inflammation, but we now have interfered with the body’s ability to detoxify and repair. Toxicity, over time, is what leads to all degenerative diseases, cancer included.

About 30 years ago, I changed my thinking and my approach to healing patients. After the diagnosis was made, I did not immediately treat the symptoms. I asked the burning question, “Why does this patient have this diagnosis at this time”? Understanding the mechanism of the presenting pathology opens up a whole new picture of the problem. It is all about maximizing homeostasis in the human body. It is about looking at factors in the patient’s epigenetics (diet, lifestyle, and environment) that may be having deleterious effects on their immune system. When the immune system is burdened, health declines. Therefore, doing everything possible to re-establish homeostasis is the actual key to “health care”. Our treatments should make our patients healthier!

Along comes CBD oil! This amazing molecule does just that. It opens up the pathways involved in the maintenance of homeostasis by binding to receptor sites in the central nervous system, immune system and peripheral nervous system that are designed by nature to bind with our own endogenous endorphins and neurotransmitters. It facilitates signals that enliven primary inflammation; elevates inhibitory neurotransmission to enable better and deeper sleep (where primary inflammation is most active); diminishes stress signals which cause anxiety and interfere with immune function; normalizes brain activity (hence diminishing seizures); improves digestion and the assimilation and utilization of nutrients and does it WITHOUT side effects!

It is critically important to understand that the key to ALL nutrients and medications is their bioavailability. Bioavailability means that the size of the molecules is easily assimilated on a cellular level. The smaller the molecule, the more bioavailable it is. The higher the bioavailability, the greater the effect it has and hence, it’s success. Buyer beware! Not all CBD oil is the same. Canbiola utilizes nanotechnology and now supplies the only CBD oil on the market with a molecular size of 30 nanometers, making it the most bioavailable CBD oil on the market. I use it exclusively in my practice and it is making a difference for many of my patients who have been suffering with pain for years. It is the “missing link” to assisting patients with pain syndromes. As a doctor dedicated to using natural medicines to heal my patients, CBD oil from Canbiola is the best investment my patients are making in their return to better health.
